This is the first time that I encounter this megalopa larva. I have ever encountered zoea larva before. Megalopa larva's abdomen still stretched rearwards, also five pairs of pleopod is swimmeret. When swimming fast, stretch all legs forward. 📏Carapace length２mm. Location: Osezaki Shizuoka 🇯🇵🗾Japan. larval Oarfish 25mm This larval fish is Oarfish (Regalecus glesne, Regalecidae). It's the origin of 🇬🇧english name that the tip of ventral fin swells in an oar shape. I took this picture at 3m in depth. This larva's 📏body length is 25mm. Adults live in depths of 200-1000 m and the maximum 📏body length is 11m, the maximum weight is 272kg🤪. Larval fish of Cryptopsaras couesii Total length is about📏 5mm. This larval fish is 🆔Cryptopsaras couesii, In 🇬🇧English it's called 🆔Triple-wart seadevil that is a deep sea anglerfish. 🧐It is the origin of the name that three warts to lie side by side in front of dorsal fin. But, larval fish don't have it yet. I took picture in 🌌🌛🌛🌛night at depth -5m of Kiyan cape Okinawa mainland 🇯🇵Japan. Adult fish live in depths of 500 - 1250 m. It's small and it move about restlessly. 😅So, I am likely to lost of this larval fish often on the way of shooting. 🎈The outer skin of the larval fish is slightly expanding, it's seems to have the effect of securing the buoyancy by increasing the volume. 全長📏約5mmの🆔ミツクリエナガチョウチンアンコウの稚魚。英語では🆔Triple-wart seadevilと呼ばれる深海棲のチョウチンアンコウの1種です。🧐背鰭の前に3つの疣が横並びににある事が名前の由来です。しかし、稚魚はまだそれを持っていません。沖縄本島喜屋武岬の深さ-5mで🌌🌛🌛🌛夜に撮影しました。成魚は深度500-1250mに生息しています。😅小さいのにちょこまか動きます。だから、撮影途中で見失いそうになります。🎈稚魚の外皮はわずかに膨張していますが、これは体積を増やすことで浮力を確保する狙いがあると思われま...

This is larval-fish of  Caristius macropus  (Bellotti, 1903) . Body length was SL20 mm. Larval-fish is known to be with jellyfishes of Siphonophorae such as Agalma okenii , Apolemia uvaria and  Rosacea cymbiformis . This time it was with A. okenii . Since it departs from jellyfish when diver approaching too much, dependency on the host seems to be low.  Adult is  bathypelagic . It's habitat depth range 250 - 1420 m . Larvae habitat from surface.  C. macropus has lateral line, but closely related species of  Paracaristius nudarcus has not lateral line. The width of the eyes and the maxilla is narrow. Larval-fish of Spinyfin velifer Spinyfin velifer is very rare fish. It inhabits continental slope and oceanic ridge at depths of 175 m to 220 m but little is known about detailed ecology. Although it is very rare, divers often find adult-fish in scuba diving. It is the larval-fish of that the Spinyfin velifer that I will introduce this time. This larval-fish body length is SL11 mm. First six of the dorsal fin is stretched. The pectoral fins is large and long and dark pigment patches on at the tips of the pectoral fins. I found it at day time drift dive. It was December 7, 2017. Location is Suruga Bay in Osezaki, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The water depth was 2 meters below the surface. The sea temperature was 18 ℃.
