This is larval-fish of
Caristius macropus (Bellotti, 1903). Body length was SL20 mm. Larval-fish is known to be with jellyfishes of
Siphonophorae such as
Agalma okenii,
Apolemia uvaria and
Rosacea cymbiformis. This time it was with
A. okenii. Since it departs from jellyfish when diver approaching too much, dependency on the host seems to be low. Adult is
bathypelagic. It's habitat depth range
250 - 1420 m. Larvae habitat from surface.
C. macropus has lateral line, but closely related species of
Paracaristius nudarcus has not lateral line. The width of the eyes and the maxilla is narrow. Dorsal soft rays:

ヤエギスの稚魚。英名Manefishの"Mane"は"たてがみ"や"長い髪"を表します。撮影個体は体長SL20 mm。稚魚はヨウラククラゲ、ケムシクラゲ、アイオイクラゲのような管クラゲの仲間と一緒にいることが知られています。今回はヨウラククラゲと一緒にいました。 近づきすぎるとクラゲから離れるので、宿主への依存度は低いようです。成魚は深海浮遊性で、水深250〜1420 mに生息しています。稚魚は表層から生息しています。ヤエギスには側線がありますが、近縁のコクチヤエギス（Paracaristius nudarcus）には側線がありません。また、ヤエギスは眼と上顎がかなり接近していて、その幅が狭いのが特徴です。背鰭軟条数は33-35、臀鰭軟条数は21-23です。
